Tour discover Suriname (8-days)

Day 2 – Boat trip Today you will enjoy an impressive boat trip on the Saramacca river. From the boat you have the chance to spot many different tropical birds and animal species that live in the beautiful jungle. After the boat trip you can take a refreshing swim in the pool at the Bloemendaal apartment. Breakfast, lunch and dinner included.

Day 3 – 4×4 tour After breakfast we leave in the early morning by boat to Santrigon. This trip takes about 4 hours. Chances are that from the boat you see Deadhead and Capuchin monkeys tumbling through the branches on the bank and that a toucan warms up in the rising sun in a tree top. Upon arrival in Santrigon from this location, the next adventure awaits us. We start the 4×4 offroad tour after a good instruction and lunch. By sitting behind the wheel of the 4×4 vehicle you go to various obstacles and you, together with your travel companions and guide, come up with solutions for the challenges that nature poses to you. At the end of the afternoon we prepare the camp together with the guide, hang our hammocks and enjoy a well deserved evening meal. Approximate driving distance: 30km on unpaved roads and 20km on paved roads.

Day 4 – 4×4 tour We wake up with the typical forest sounds from the jungle of Suriname, prepare our breakfast and then break up the camp. The adventure continues and during this day we battle the elements of the jungle with the 4×4 vehicle. We drive through beautiful pieces where your eyes are short. We suffer from large puddles, mud baths, hills and deep pits. At the end of the afternoon we make camp together, hang up our hammocks, refresh ourselves in a wonderful flowing creek and enjoy again a well-deserved evening meal. Approximate driving distance: 45km on unpaved roads and 15km on paved roads.

Day 5 – Sugar Trail After a hearty breakfast the road continues towards Stolkertsijver (approx. 20km). From this point you will enjoy The Sugar Trail. After half an hour sailing on the Upper Commewijne river we arrive at the former sugar plantation Concordia. Here you can see relics of a water wheel and the steam engine of a sugar factory from around 1830. Nature has overgrown the past, but with the stories of the guide you will be taken back to slavery time. Tamanredjo is a concept in Suriname in the area of Javanese food, here you will also have lunch during this day trip. After this, the turbulent past of the Mariënburg plantation is discussed, with a visit to the former factory site. An old worker takes care of the tour and his fascinating stories bring the ruins to life and take you to the time of the contract workers. You spend the night and dine in the beautiful Frederiksdorp guest house.

Day 6 – Commewijne river – Warappakreek Today we take you for a trip on the Commewijne river and we have a great chance a magical encounter with the Surinamese dolphins. A relaxing trip where you come close to these special animals. After lunch the trip continues and sail to the Warappakreek. A fascinating and interesting journey where you return to the turbulent history of Suriname. The beautiful mature plantations are deserted and overgrown, but the guide will tell you fascinating stories. We pay a visit to the Sugar Factory and at ‘Bakkie’ we visit a museum. At the end of the afternoon we travel to Frederiksdorp where you can enjoy dinner and a well-deserved night’s rest.

Day 7 – Paramaribo This day is at leisure in Paramaribo. After breakfast we will take you to the accommodation where you can store your luggage. With a city tour, for example, you get a nice impression of the impressive city with imposing buildings. You can enjoy lunch and dinner on your own.

Day 8 – Return flight end roundtrip Transfer to the airport and departure to Amsterdam. Arrival the next day.
