The Commewijne district is known for its many plantations and is located east of Paramaribo on the other side of the Suriname River. You cross over to Commewijne via the famous Wijdenbosch bridge, where you have a wonderful view of both Commewijne and Paramaribo. In Commewijne you are introduced to the history, nature and welcoming Javanese inhabitants of this area. You will pass the luxury residential area Palm Village and then arrive in Nieuw Amsterdam. Here you will visit the Open Air museum Fort Nieuw Amsterdam: one of the oldest fortifications in Suriname. Along the way there are opportunities to make several stops. From the Tuk Tuk you can enjoy the rich nature of the Commewijne district.
