Isadou – Suriname

Isadou is one of the few resorts with authentic and modern lodges and one local marron couple owns.

Upper Suriname:

Isadou is located in the Upper Suriname area and is known for its unique Maroon culture and her virgin Amazon rainforest. The Maroons, descendants of runaway slaves, have long ago settled in the inaccessible inland, where they built a new life. Due to their isolated way of life, developed a distinctive culture with strong African influences.

The program (3 days all inclusive):

Day 1:

On the first day you will be picked up from your accommodation in Paramaribo around 9:00. Then we leave for Atjoni. Along the way we will make a stop to eat and drink. Around 12:30 arriving at Atjoni. Here we switch to a canoe. It is sailing about 45 minutes. Upon arrival you can drop luggage at your lodge after then ready a delicious lunch for you. After lunch we go for a walk in the jungle, so you can learn how to use the Maroons rainforests. After returning you can even swim in the sula near the island Isadou. In the evening there will be a delicious meal and enjoy the jungle sounds.

Day 2:

The second day starts with a breakfast. Then we get ready to visit the villages of Jaw Jaw, Gunsi and New Aurora. In these villages you can see how the Maroons traditional life. you can swim in the Fellulassi Sula at the end of the afternoon. Once you’re cool down we go back to Isadou. On the island, you still have time to freshen up your, good as slicing or again take a dip in the water. In the evening you will receive a delicious Surinamese meal. We go caiman spotting at night. Keep your eyes and ears open. You can see the caimans by shining a flashlight to the side.

Day 3:

After breakfast you have time for yourself to leave around 13:00 after lunch with the canoe to Atjoni. Here we get into a van that you are in about 3.5 hours back to where you accommodation in Paramaribo. Back arrived in the city, you can process all the impressions.
